A Relaxing Pamper Day

March 4, 2012
A lovely gift box arrived through my letter box recently from Buyagift.com, inside I found a voucher for a relaxing spa day for two from their pamper range.

A stack of flyers on a table

After looking on the website on the voucher to find my nearest location I found that there were two spas in Norwich that I could go to. The Mariott hotel spa or Bannatyne Spa, I opted for Bannatyne Spa as this was closer to where I live.

My next decision was who to take, well not so much of a decision really of course I was going to drag take along my best friend Lou. Once we had chosen a date, I called them up and made our booking. The lady on the phone was really nice and helpful, offering me a selection of times to book our treatments in and asking whether we would prefer seperate or joint treatment rooms.

The Spa Day

Upon arrival the receptionist greeted us warmly and asked if we had been before, as neither of us had she kindly explained everything. After completing  the registration forms and answering a few medical questions we were shown around the facilities.

You can hire a robe and slippers all in a lovely bag for just £2.00, plus you get to keep the slipper afterwards. Lockers were available too for a refundable £1.00 deposit, they were a great size and you could easily get more than one persons clothes and bags in them.

The changing rooms were clean and large with showers, wash facilities and hairdryers available. I was impressed to see that they had a play pen in there too so you could place your little one in there whilst you were getting changed.

First up was the sauna, a little warm after a while but still really lovely. This was followed up a dip and chat in the pool. Even though we were there on a Sunday it was not overcrowded and the families that were there with children weren’t rowdy.

Next up was the Jacuzzi we spent quite a long time in there, the bubbles were so relaxing. I felt like I’d already had a massage from the jets, very therapeutic. After a quick drink and snack we thought we’d pop into the steam room to open our pores ready for our treatments.

I really enjoyed the steam room, I couldn’t quite managed to sit on the top seats but I felt so much better after being in there.

(forgive our messy hair but we had already been in the sauna)

The gym and fitness sessions were available too but they felt a little too energetic for us!

Treatment Package

After being welcomed into the spa area, we were shown to the relaxation room. A darken room with six heated mosaic beds, which were surprisingly comfortable. I think it must be the angle of the beds or maybe the heat but they really did help us relax before our treatments.

There was a red glow in the room giving it a fabulous atomsphere, it’s just my camera flash doesn’t show this

The package entitled us to both have the following treatments, we opted to have a joint treatment room. There were single treatment rooms available if you prefer.

Swedish Back, Neck, & Shoulders Massage:

Expert Swedish massage focused on the back, neck and shoulders for complete relaxation. Great for easing the tension built up with today’s busy lifestyles.

Elemis Pick Me Up Facial:

A quick, instant pick me-up and an excellent pre makeup facial for that special occasion. This facial is also an ideal way to experience a taste of the world renowned Elemis Facials

A bedroom with a bed and desk in a room

Before starting our treatments we were asked about any aches and pains that we may have. We both mentioned about our shoulders from working in an office. They inquired about our skin and were we had any problem areas, personally I have quite dry skin especially on my forehead.

The massage was just wonderful, it really helped get rid of those knots in my shoulders. We were asked that the pressure was just right. With soft relaxing music playing in the background and the lights dimmed I could have easily fallen asleep.

Once our massage was complete they kept our modesty whilst we turned over in preparation for our facials. Before starting our facials we were treated to a warm foot wrap. The facial was delightful, although the hot towels were a little warm when you weren’t expecting them but they were only on for a few seconds and really refreshed your face.

Whilst we had our face masks on we were treated to a lovely hand and arm massage, an extra bit of pampering.

As the treatments came to an end the ladies spoke in soft voices making sure that we were both happy with the treatments and to get up slowly. Once dressed we could then join them in the spa reception area were they could advise us on the products that they had used during the treatments.

We received a product leaflet with details of the products that we had just received, there was no mention of ‘did you want to purchase any of these products today?’. It was refreshing not to receive the hard sell.

We were told that we could use the relaxation room again if required, which we did after a spot of lunch.

Overall

We had a fabulous time, so relaxing and fun at the same time. You could easily spend all day there making full use of all of the facilities. The staff were polite and helpful. The facilities were clean, comfortable and enjoyable.

I would highly recommend this package to all, Mother’s day is coming up so if you are looking for a great day to treat your mum or even yourself you will not be disappointed. Spa days would be a great way to enjoy some time with your Mum, best friend or even your partner.

I can now cross off no.8 on my things to do before I’m forty!
