The Note, Deadwater fell and Haircuts #LittleLoves

January 30, 2020

This month’s #LittleLoves… The Christmas decorations have been packed away after another festive season. Blue Monday has been and gone, and for the most part, I’ve survived the first month of the year. And, of course, the new decade. If I’m honest this month has been about recovery from the previous one. My high functioning anxiety has been running away with itself and at times has been all too consuming. A new balance needs to be found which I’m working on, however, will take time to fully implement.

This month’s #LittleLoves…

Each month I share my #littleloves, a chance to reflect on the things that I have read, watched, heard and made. As well as highlighting what I’ve worn and any other highlights in my life. It’s not about the big things, it’s about all those small little loves that make up everyday life.

#LittleLoves January 2020 B - Boo Roo and Tigger Too

One of the ways I am taking time for myself this year is through reading. Setting a goal of 12 books for 2020 – which I’m well on the way to completing and then some. With the help of my Kindle Paperwhite, I am working my way through some books that have been sitting on my ‘to be read’ list for quite some time.

This month I have managed to read…

  • The Note – Based on a true story it beautifully follows the life of Maya Flowers who meets The One on her train journey to work one day. Eventually, Maya plucks up the courage to give Train Man a note asking him out for a drink. Following the highs and lows of the journey and whether or you can really find the love of your life on your morning commute.
  • Everything I know about love – One that I’d seen a few of my friends had read and opted to give it a go. A book full of different chapters of a life lived falling in and out of love. Themed parties, getting drunk and the meaning of friendship. One to make you laugh and cry.
  • One Day in December – A book that I’d started reading last year but never got very far and forgot all about it. Popping up on my Kindle books list spurred me on to start from the beginning. A beautiful story following the lives of Laurie and Jack who met by chance – but it’s only a fleeting glance at a bus stop. Circumstances take a turn when they meet again. An opportunity to follow their loves through the highs and lows of love and friendship.

For some reason, this month’s viewings follow a similar theme of crime, mystery and twisted lives. With a binge-watch of The Valleys on Netflix after seeing a mention of it pop up on my social media timeline – I’m easily influenced. Sarah Lancashire is an amazing actress and portrays the role beautifully. Making me both laugh and cry. I believe that a third series is planned but has not yet been filmed.

Deadwater Fell on Channel 4 is one I recorded on a whim after seeing an advert for the show over Christmas (I told you I was easily influenced). A tragedy happens in a small village and you follow the story to find out what truly happened. Lots of twists and turns throughout with flashbacks to things that had previously happened. The last episode is tomorrow and I can’t wait to see what actually happened.

I also attempted to watch P.S. I Love You after reading the book last month. It was truly awful and very unlike the book. I had to turn it off!

We treated ourselves to an Echo Dot for our bedroom with some Amazon vouchers that we had received for Christmas, So I’ve bee taking advantage of asking Alexa to play different genres of music for me whilst I work (my desk is in the bedroom).

After months of complaining about how limp and damaged my hair was, I finally booked an appointment at the hairdressers. Going short again after having medium/long hair has been quite a change. I’m not 100% in love with the style but at least my hair looks more healthy than it did beforehand.

Not sure this fits this category or not but I’m going to roll with it. January is always a tight month as it is for many others. This year we have made a change to our spending habits and adopting a close as possible to no spend month. Not purchasing extras such as treats, clothes and smellies etc. Making use of what we have already in the house.

I had a pinch-me moment earlier this month as I attended a press event with P&O Cruises. Treated to a live performance from Gary Barlow who was about 10m away from our table – a truly magical evening.
