How to save money in 2019

This is a partnership article

Around the new year, people start looking for ways to save money. It might have been a New Year’s Resolution or just a revisit on how their budget is working, but either way, money issues seem to be at the top of the list. It starts in January and things that are not necessary are the first to go. Maybe you stop buying that extra large coffee from the local coffee shop. Maybe you order one less takeaway each week or month. But, by March, you might still be looking for other ways to save. Ways that take saving money to a new step.

How to Save Money Around the House

Check Your Windows

Your windows could be costing a good bit of money each year. From letting the cold in and the heat out during the winter to let the cold air out and the warm air in during the summer. Check your windows for drafts. If you find that your windows have leaks and drafts, the best idea is to replace the windows. Since you are trying to save money, new windows might not be in the budget.

The first thing to do is to replace the weather stripping. This is available at the local home improvement store. It is inexpensive and easy to apply. The weatherstripping helps to fill the gaps and seal the window. Another thing you can do is hang heavy drapes. Drapes help to block the airflow.

Check the Boiler and Heating System

If your heating system and boiler are not running properly, it can be wasting a lot of your hard earned money. Making sure that it is in tip top shape can help to save you money not just this year but for years to come. By taking out boiler cover, you can have peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, it will be covered. Even if putting money out for parts is a hit to the budget, not fixing broken parts can cause an even larger expense later on. It is important to tackle the issues before it becomes a problem. Heating and Plumbing World has parts and supplies at a lower price to make it a bit easier to fit into your budget.

Mend Your Garden

As the spring weather comes, you might start to think about your garden. There are several ways to save money in the garden. When you are starting to think of new plants and flowers for the garden try to use seeds instead of already started plants. You can usually buy a packet of seeds, which can give a dozen or more of a particular plant, for a fraction of the cost of a ready to go plant. Talk with your neighbours and see if you can trade some of the plants you have started from seeds with some of their plants. This is a nice way to get a variety of plants without the cost.

Another option for saving money in the garden is to collect rainwater. By collecting rainwater, you are not paying for water and you are still able to make sure your plants and garden have enough water so you do not lose the plants you have invested in. Of course, growing your own fruits and vegetables is another way to save money in your garden.

Simple things can help you save money in 2019, that does not have to be hard or painful. Once you have saved money in these areas, it is easy to look at other places in your daily life in order to save even more money.
