Debenhams Dream Bedroom Competition

October 7, 2013
Earlier this year we finally had saved enough money to start renovating our upstairs. We managed to achieve quite a lot from replacing the door linings, architrave, doors, skirting boards and walls re-plastered. Roo’s bedroom is looking great with her pink walls, bunk beds and accessories, however our bedroom is a little unloved. Like most parents we decided to spent what little we had left after paying the builders on getting Roo’s bedroom looking good and thought we’d worry about ours when we had the money.

Unfortunately we haven’t managed to save enough money to complete our bedroom so whilst it is carpeted and has a fresh coat of paint on the walls it is looking a little bare and unloved. So when I came across the Debenhams Dream Bedroom competition that is being judged by the lovely Jen from Love Chic Living and the equally lovely Annie from Mammasaurus I knew that this would be a great opportunity for me to gather all my ideas for the room onto a moodboard.

The idea of the competition is to head over to Debenhams (specifically looking at their bedroom section) and simply design your dream bedroom for under £5000.

Furniture

Two tone ‘Burlington’ high foot bedstead – £320

Two tone ‘Burlington’ 3 drawer bedside chest – £200 x2

Two tone ‘Burlington’ 6 drawer chest – £352

Two tone ‘Burlington’ dressing table – £240

Accessories

Plum Serenata wallpaper – £13 per roll

Two tone ‘Burlington’ vanity mirror – £128

Cream ‘Bellevue’ floral chair with light feet – £558

Designer ‘Betty May’ bedding set – £46

Lilac ‘Poppy’ rug – £170

Lighting

Madonna 5 Light Dual Mount Antique Brass Chandelier – £159

Grey scratched lamp – £68 x2

Finishing Touches

White ‘Mr Mrs’ letters – £12

Cream butterfly hanging heart – £10

White ‘Live Laugh Love’ cut out heart – £7
Purple mixed flower arrangement in glass bowl – £40
Natural butterfly embroidered cushion – £18 x2

Grand Total = £2679 – I can’t believe that I have only spent just over half the allowed budget… it just goes to show you that kitting out a room doesn’t have to cost the earth.

It’s obvious from my mood board that my love of purple is a key factor in my accessories, however I have decided to stay fairly neutral with my furniture selection allowing us to keep for years to come and simply update/refresh the accessories as and when needed. I’m not too sure what Mr Boo would make of the chandelier however I think most little girls hope to have a chandelier in their home when they are older and this is my opportunity (I’ll leave any jokes about swinging from the chandelier over to you *wink wink*).

So fingers crossed that I am selected as their overall winner and I could bag myself £500 Debenhams vouchers, or even one of the runners-up prizes of £50 Debenhams vouchers… first on my list to buy is that fabulous wallpaper, I think it will make the room feel instantly warmer and inviting.

Wish me luck!

Fancy checking out some other entries for some great ideas? of course you do… please head over to Keynko, Mummy Never Sleeps, Baby Budgeting, Five’s A Fellowship and Romanian Mum.
