The Benefits of Expressing Breastmilk

June 20, 2018

There are a number of reasons why women may choose to feed their baby expressed breast milk. Here are just a few of the benefits of expressing breastmilk…

When breastfeeding doesn’t go to plan

For one reason or another breastfeeding can be something that doesn’t go to plan. Expressing can be the perfect solution in this instance. With the majority of new parents understanding that breastmilk is the best thing for baby. So when breastfeeding doesn’t work out expressing milk for them to consume via a bottle rather than immediately switching to formula. If exclusively expressing, your breast pump is your best friend! A double pump, such as the Pumpables Milk Genie Plus can help you express more milk per sitting saving you time throughout the day (and night). Timesaving is a must when you’re pumping six to eight times per day.

When daddy wants to bond

Another benefit of pumping is that it enables the father (or mother’s partner) to be involved in the feeding of the baby. Giving them time to cuddle and bond with baby whilst they give a bottle of expressed breastmilk. It also means that gets to have a break from some of the night feeds!

Returning to work

Of course, it’s very difficult to breastfeed your baby if your baby isn’t with you! Expressing means that women can return to work while still giving their babies the benefit of your breastmilk. The law requires employers to provide a place for breastfeeding women to either breastfeed or express, so there’s no reason to stop breastfeeding your child once you return to work.

Taking a break

One of the best reasons for pumping is that it means you can have a break from your baby. Of course, we love our children to bits, but sometimes we all need to have a bit of ‘me’ time! Having some breastmilk stored in the fridge or freezer means that if we need to have some time away, for whatever reason, then whoever is looking after your child can feed them. This means that baby gets what they need, and mummy does too!
