A small house surrounded by water

Butlins Minehead West Lakes Village // Lakeside Chalet

November 14, 2017

Going on holiday can sometimes feel like a compromise. Whilst I am looking forward to spending a few days away from home, enjoying activities and attempting to switch off from everyday life. There is a part of me that wonders how we will manage in the accommodation. Will it be suitable for our family, will we end up using it as just a place to sleep as it’s easier to be out than relax there.

Booking a break at Butlins means that I do not need to worry about the accommodation. Given that they have years of practice when it comes to knowing what families require during their stay with them and how to make things a little easier too. Having previously stayed at the Butlins Minehead resort within the Seaside Apartments, our recent visit saw us opt for a Lakeside Chalet in the West Lakes Village.

Butlins Minehead West Lakes Village

A small house surrounded by water

West Lakes Village is set in landscaped gardens and beside two beautiful lakes. You can choose to stay in a Parkview, Lakeview or Lakeside chalets which are all finished with a veranda, balcony or Juliet balcony so after a busy day you can relax and watch the world go by.

Butlins Minehead Lakeside Chalet

Although the activities, shows and entertainment will, for the most part, keep you away from the Butlins accommodation. There will still be a time when you are there. Either preparing lunch, letting your little one nap or just chilling out before your turn in for the evening. During our recent stay at Butlins Minehead for the Butlins WWE weekend, we stayed within one of the four-bedroom Lakeside Chalets.

Butlins Minehead Lakeside Chalet // Living Area

A living room filled with furniture and a flat screen tv

The large open plan living area boasts a beautiful vaulted ceiling. Comprising of a large seating area with enough space for all the guests staying in the chalet. From comfortable settees, chair and a fun Butlins themed beanbag dice. A large flat screen TV and coffee tables allow for the area to be used to wake up in the mornings and relax in the evenings.

A dining room table

On the other side of the living area is the dining area (which I can only aspire to achieve), with a large table and colourful chairs adding interest to a functional area. Situated by the large windows and doors overlooking the patio and lake beyond it has some beautiful views no matter what time of the day you are sitting there.

The kitchen is the heart of any home. Whilst you may have booked a dining package during your stay, you will still find some need for kitchen facilities. The light, modern facilities offer everything you need whether you are just preparing snacks or a small lunch, but would also work well if you opt for a self-catering break too. Fully equipped with appliances, pots and pans, as well as the usual crockery, cutlery and drinking vessels you would expect to find.

Butlins Minehead Lakeside Chalet // Bedrooms

Being a family of five we can sometimes struggle when it comes to bedroom space. With Piglet still in a travel cot, we often end up in a two bedroom apartment or chalet. With the decision of whether to risk putting the cot in with the children or ourselves and disturbing her as we go to bed. Although she sounds like Darth Vader when she sleeps so possibly more of a case of her disturbing us. In the past, we have placed her cot within the living area and resorted to sitting in the bedroom until we have gone to bed ourselves.

A bedroom with a bed in a hotel room

The Lakeside Chalets offer a range of accommodation solutions. With our recent stay within a four bedroom lakeside chalet. Perfect for us and my mother-in-law who came with us for a multi-generational trip. Comprising of two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms, set over the ground and first floor. With the twin bedroom on the first floor being able to be transformed into a double bed if required.

Each of the bedrooms are light, bright and house everything you need for a comfortable, refreshing nights sleep. A range of clothes storage solutions are available within each of the rooms, from hanging wardrobe facilities to open shelves and drawers. With small flat screen TV’s also available. Given that the chalet could hold up to eight people, you are each able to gain your own private space away from the rest of the party.

Butlins Minehead Lakeside Chalet // Bathroom Facilities

Given that the Lakeside Chalet hold up to 8 people the last thing you want to be doing first thing in the morning or last thing at night is queue for the bathroom facilities. Careful planning into the design and use of the chalets has been considered. With the ground floor hosting a cloakroom toilet and basin area, as well as a large bathroom with bath and over bath shower facilities. Available in a Jack ‘n’ Jill style with access available from both the double bedroom or from the main entrance area.

The first floor boasts both a separate shower room as well as an en suite shower and toilet room. This is available, again, with the Jack ‘n’ Jill style from the double bedroom and landing. All of the bathroom facilities come complete with a range of fresh towels and complimentary toiletries in a little pouch.

Butlins Minehead Lakeside Chalet // Boo Roo and Tigger Too’s thoughts…

Walking into the Lakeside Chalet we loved that there was a large entrance hall with space available for coats, bags and shoes. As well as the ability to leave the pushchair upright without it being in the way. Although we managed to explore the bedrooms and bathrooms first, it was opening the door to the living area that took my breath away. Instantly I knew that the open plan area would work so well for our family during our stay. The vaulted ceiling, large windows and beautiful furniture made me want to move in on a permanent basis every time I stopped and gazed around the room.

During the weekend we found the chalet to work so well for our family of five (plus my MIL), with ample bedrooms, bathrooms and living space. If I had to find fault it is that there is only one heated towel rail available within the chalet, which we relied upon to dry our swimwear ready for the next dip in the pool.
