Whenever I sit down to write my monthly goals post I do wonder to myself whether setting these goals is a pointless exercise. As the months’ tick by I’m more and more aware that I’m not really achieving anything. Well, obviously, I am achieving some things just not necessarily the goals I set out in advance. I suppose in some ways I should look at this as a positive, opting to see how the month goes and take each day, mood and opportunity as it comes.
There is still a part of me that would love to report back that I’d smashed my monthly goals – maybe one month I will.
How did I get on with last months goals?
The long summer days and up and down weather has left my August feeling a little all over the place. However, I do feel as though I have managed to achieve a few things off my to-do list as well as work on my monthly goals.
Garden jobs
Possibly one of the tasks that I actually thought I’d achieve. The mix of very hot weather and rain-filled days has meant that I’ve not felt like scrubbing the patio or adding another coat of wood stain to the sleepers in the children’s play area. Jobs in the grand scheme of things don’t necessarily matter. Nobody but me is frustrated that they haven’t been completed.
Staying local
Summer holidays are usually filled with lots of days out. This summer has been a much more relaxed affair. Attempting to do one day trip a week. Whilst What the Dad Said took Roo and Tigger to Thorpe Park for the day. It gave me the opportunity to spend the day with Piglet. Heading to Great Yarmouth to wander around The Waterways. As well as the feel of the sand between our toes as we walked on the beach.
Switching off
This is one goal I have managed to complete. With emails, notifications etc. left until allocated time every few days. Rather than getting caught up in the mindless scrolling and emails that ultimately don’t lead to any work. Stepping back from my blog, with posts scheduled in advance allowing me to be a more present parent – as well as allowing me to indulge in a new Kindle book or two.
My plans and goals for September
Whilst January often signals new starts, plans and resolutions for most people. I find that September marks a fantastic time to start looking at goals, projects and work/life balance alongside the children starting a new school year.
Clearing the drafts
I have 101 different posts sitting in my drafts folder. Some that are just titles, a paragraph or two and even full posts awaiting images etc. I’d love to go through these and either delete or schedule where necessary. Allowing me to then think about the type of content I’d like to produce going forward.
Back to school
I’m not sure this counts as a monthly goal or not – but it’s my blog so I guess I can choose either way. Anyway… After six months at home, the children are hopefully heading back to school this coming month. Time to ensure uniforms, lunchboxes and accessories are ready. As well as getting the children back into our usual routines for before and after school. It will feel strange not having them here all day but they need to get back into the swing of things.
Birthday prep
With all three children celebrating their birthday’s in November (poor planning on my behalf), it’s important that we start prepping ahead of time. Thinking about gifts, parties/dinners and whether or not to go away on a short break or day out to celebrate.
Do you have any goals or plans for September?
