Cooking outside my comfort zone

April 10, 2013

I’m a plain Jane, I know what I like and I stick to it… especially when it comes to food. Mr Boo on the other hand has a wide palette but often sticks to ‘boring’ ‘plain’ food as that is what I’m having. With this in mind I have decided to attempt to cook him something special, something I wouldn’t normally make. I have been searching online and found Schwartz have some great Indian recipes here, I’m loving that I can filter by difficulty and have opted for the Indian Spiced Salmon.

Indian Spiced Salmon

Why Indian you may ask? Well last week after we had been to the Easter fair with Roo and Tigger we were heading to one of our favourite restaurants in town (actually were we had our first date). We passed an Indian restaurant and Mr Boo commented about how the food is supposed to be really lovely in there. I had a huge pang of guilt hit me that as much as I would love to take Mr Boo there for a meal I know he wouldn’t enjoy it as he knows I wouldn’t be eating much and enjoying the food.

So in order to redeem myself as a loving wife I have decided to make him some dishes that I hope he will enjoy (whilst gaining myself some much needed brownie points). I’m going to stick with easy dishes to start with until I get to grips with using the spices and slowly become more adventurous.

Spiced Potatoes & Spinach

The Spiced Potatoes and Spinach recipe I think I could adapt to make it suitable for my plain tastes too by using two pans and not adding the curry powder to one.

Do you have any great Indian recipes I could try?

Any that I could adapt to make a non-spicy version for myself?
