The BFG DVD

November 21, 2016

As a child I can always remember my Year 3 class teacher, she introduced me to the world of Roald Dahl. Throughout the course of that school year we sat and read all of his classic children’s books. We’d discuss the characters and had a chart on the wall to showcase which one was our favorite. To be honest I think it’s hard to say which is your true favourite as they are all fantastic.

The BFG is probably one of the books that I opted to read again and again as I grew up. I bought Roo the Roald Dahl collection of books earlier this year and she loved the story of the BFG just as much as I did. She was so pleased when she heard that it was going to be a film.

The BFG

The BFG follows a young girl called Sophie who lives in an orphanage in London. One night, Sophie sees a large, cloaked person in her bedroom window who takes her away to his homeland in Giant Country. There, he identifies himself as the Big Friendly Giant (BFG). Considered an outcast by his fellow children-eating giants, the BFG spends his nights sweeping the streets of London blowing bottled dreams into children’s bedrooms and sustaining himself on a diet of ‘snozzcumbers’ – a foul tasting vegetable substitute to ‘human beans’.

When the film was released in cinemas Roo and Tigger were lucky enough to go and watch it with Magic Nanny and Grandad. Which I have to confess I was more than a little bit green with envy about! They came home full of tales about the film, so I was pleased when the DVD arrived last week for us to sit down as a family and enjoy.

Although they had seen the film in the cinema, Tigger was a little frightened of the BFG coming along and taking Sophie from her bedroom but soon realised that he was, in fact, a big friendly giant. We’ve managed to watch the film twice in a week, and I can see it making another appearance again before too long.

THE BFG is available now on Digital Download, Blu-Ray™ and DVD from Amazon and all other good entertainment retailers.
