The Fizzle Trilogy – Shipley Manor Adventures

November 25, 2017 No Comments

One of the objectives on Roo’s school report from the last term was for her to broaden her reading repertoire.  Whilst she is a confident reader, there are authors and genres that she turns to time and time again.  With this in mind, we have been browsing bookstores for different titles.  Earlier this month Roo received The Fizzle Trilogy by Tim Walker. Following the exploits of Polly and Tom as they seek to unravel the mystery of a special, seemingly magical water known as the Fizzle. Their action-packed adventures, set first in Shipley Manor – the ship-shaped country house in which Polly lives – then in the Caribbean and finally the Arctic, see them overcome a host of evil villains and deadly perils as they draw ever closer to meeting the Fizzle’s creator and discovering its true purpose.

Christmas gift principles // Something to read

November 18, 2017 No Comments

This year there is a big push on the four gift principles, something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read.  Whilst this concept has been around for a number of years, I think we are all more aware of the financial burden that Christmas can be.  As well as the number of items we both gift and receive that are not necessary. With this in mind, I wanted to share with you the wonderful #giveabook campaign from Scholastic.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway

November 7, 2017 No Comments

Earlier this year we were invited to the screening of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Long Haul.  Oh, how we giggled our way through the film.  I cannot remember when we last laughed that much.  Up until we had watched the film we were aware of the book series, however, hadn’t read any of them for ourselves.  Arriving home we ordered the first two books, with the remaining books soon following as we enjoyed them so much.

How to Throw the Ultimate Slumber Party

Roo is at the age where sleepovers are the highlight of her tween social calendar.  Whether she is heading off to stay at a friends house for the night or she is persuading me that hosting a sleepover at our house would be a great idea.  In the days where I would attend sleepovers, it was just a quick chat at the school gates between parents before heading home to your friends’ house.  Nowadays it is much more of an event, a social occasion if you will.  Planning, games, invites and goodie bags are a must-have for any great sleepover.

My Little Pony Movie Book Collection

Hands up who owned the My Little Pony lunch box and matching flask when they were at school *I did, I did*.  I’m an 80’s child who was brought up with My Little Pony and can still remember to this day opening up the My Little Pony Nursery one Christmas morning – oh my, how I loved that playset.  So you can imagine my delight when Roo expressed an interest in My Little Pony a few years ago and has been something that Tigger and now Piglet have all picked up on.

Dragon’s Green: Worldquake Book One

Something that was picked up on Roo’s reading report from school last year was that she tended to select the same style of books.  So this year I have been on a mission to try to extend her bookshelves from the classic ‘girly’ books that she purchases with her pocket-money.  The Dragon’s Green: Worldquake book one was recently sent across to us and after reading the back of the book I have to admit that I was quite keen to read it too.

Isla Fisher Marge book collection

Tigger is now at the age where he is a confident reader.  Having always expressed an interest in books, following in his sister footsteps.  I often find them reading a book or a magazine together – which melts my heart.  So when it comes to adding new books to our bookshelves, I’m always looking for something that will appeal to both of them.  The new Isla Fisher Marge book collection is a trio of books that really stood out for me.

Disney Pixar Cars 3 // The Essential Guide {Book Review}

September 1, 2017 No Comments

The new Disney Pixar Cars 3 film has been noted on Tigger’s calendar for some time.  Needless to say, he was so excited to enjoy a special trip to the cinema to see the film ahead of the launch back in July.  As only he and myself have seen it, we have a few ‘in’ jokes about the film that we pass back and forth from time to time.  With the film watched his mind has turned to the toys and accessories that have been released.  As a lover of facts and information, the Disney Pixar Cars 3 The Essential Guide has been the perfect accompaniment for him.
