A group of items on a table

Making the most of free play craft supplies

August 23, 2015

At the beginning of the summer we were kindly gifted a wonderful selection of craft supplies to #keepthekidsbusy from Wilko. With a selection of make your own activities and free play craft supplies Roo and Tigger have had fun making the different sets. Taking some of the free craft supplies to Granny’s house it has proved useful as the Cumbrian weather has been less than kind to them with rain spoiling play equalling lots of time for crafting fun.

Making the most of free play craft supplies

A group of items on a table

I have to admit that I’m someone who likes to follow instructions on how to complete a crafting masterpiece rather than just going with the flow. I’m somewhat lacking in imagination when it comes to looking at a selection of pipe cleaners, feathers, coloured lollipop sticks etc. Thankfully my children seem to have more imagination that I do and happily reach for the glue, paint and craft supplies to make masterpieces.

For those of you who are like me and struggle when it comes to craft ideas thankfully my fellow bloggers come to our rescue…

Free play craft ideas

Ladybird crafts – You’ve got to love ladybirds and if you do then you have got to take a look at this range of ladybird crafts.

Easy pipe cleaner people – A wonderful pipe cleaner craft idea, who wouldn’t want to make some elves and pixies?

Pine cone owls – I can remember collecting pine cones with my Grandad as a child and this craft idea is a great way to use them up.

Cardboard tube villagePaper and Village – Why not make a fairy village perfect for those pipe cleaner people, a great way to use up those empty toilet rolls.

Spring flowers – Brighten up the house with the flowers that never need replacing.

Minion stones – Painting stones is a craft that we really love to do, a trip down to the beach to find the perfect stones followed by an afternoon turning them into masterpieces.

Lolly stick harmonica – Looking for something different to do with lollipop sticks? then try making a lolly stick harmonica and see who can make the best sound.

Pipe cleaner dolly dress up – Every girl needs a new outfit or two so why not make a new one for Barbie and her friends

What a fab selection of goodies. Amy just needs some paper and a pair of scissors and she’s gone for hours, she loves just sitting at her desk and cutting out different shapes and making just about anything. One day she made a jellyfish, the next a bracelet. It’s always different with her x

Erin spends hours crafting but as yet i just let her go loose. maybe I need to encourage her and (dare I say it) actually do it with her and make some of these suggestions.

I love just letting them sit at the table with everything spread out in front of them and watching what they come up with. My two are just getting past the age where they enjoy crafting but we’ve had countless hours of fun over the years x
