Combating Issues Relating To A Long Distance Move

While moving might be stressful, long-distance moves can take the cake. The logistics of long-distance moves can be a challenge. From trying to transport everything in one trip to making sure everything arrives safe and sound, the whole process can be just one thing after another.

If you’ve made shorter moves in the past, then you might know what to expect. However, with greater distances come more significant challenges. In this article, we explore some of the more common issues related to longer moves and how to overcome them.

Home Not Ready Yet

What happens if you get ready to move, but the new place isn’t available yet? The best solution for this situation depends on how long it will be until your new home is ready. What if there was a snafu with closing? Short term storage facilities are the best option for making sure your stuff is protected while waiting to move in. Here you will unload your items in the storage facility or have your movers unload. Then when ready to move in, pick up from the store and deliver to your new location.

Managing Cleanout Tasks

Do you tend to hoard a little? Cleaning out unwanted items can be a challenging task. When relocating long-distance, minimizing the amount of stuff you take with you will make the process go a lot faster, not to mention smoother. If you genuinely like holding on to things, you might want to start the process for decluttering sooner rather than later. Spend a weekend going through each room, eliminating things you no longer want or need. A great tip here is you can also start packing up the items you don’t see yourself using until you get to the new place as you go along throughout the home.

Moving With No Help

Have you ever done a move on your own? If so, you were probably shocked at how heavy some of your furniture was, and remarked how this isn’t a solo mission by no means. If you have no help for moving, which is a problem for many, enlist the help of a reputable moving company. Instead of begging friends and family, you can hire movers to handle the heavy lifting and transportation.

Budgeting For Movers

Getting a budget together can be exhausting before and during the moving process. There are a ton of variables. Hiring movers will be a top priority, especially for long-distance moves. The problem with moving long-distance is eliminating the need for several trips. The more trips you have to do, the more money you will spend. If you’re only able to use one friend’s truck or the truck rental company only has a smaller vehicle to use, you could be making multiples. This could extend moving well into the next day.

Instead of worrying about how many trips you’ll need to make, make sure you have enough money set aside in the budget to have professional movers help. They will supply the truck and the workforce to get the job done quickly. Start saving a few months in advance if possible for your moving company. The best thing to do is call to request a quote, so you know exactly how much to expect to pay.

We moved out of our flat last year on our own as we had stuff going everywhere. Some was going to a storage unit, some to my nans to store and some to my parents where we’ve been living for a year. Once our house is fully renovated I think we’re going to move everything in ourselves too x

Great tips. When my partner and I moved into our present home, we used professional removers, but the previous occupants decided to ‘save money’ and do the job themselves. They still hadn’t finished moving their stuff out by the time we and our removers arrived, causing all concerned unnecessary delays, massive stress, and additional costs (which we seriously considered suing them for). If you’re moving a long way especially, I strongly agree that you should get the professionals in!
