Christmas Traditions // LEGO® Advent Calendars

November 28, 2017

When it comes to counting down the advent period, I recall those advent candle wreaths that were made on Blue Peter. The ones made from two wire coat hangers, tinsel and candles. With each candle lit each week leading up to Christmas. Not quite sure it would be passed by health and safety nowadays, with the combination of tinsel and naked flames.

At some point, a chocolate advent calendar was introduced into my childhood years and I can remember the tough decision that had to be made in the supermarket. Whilst chocolate advent calendars have featured in our home for Roo when she was younger, I think it was Tigger not eating chocolate that made us look at alternative ways to countdown advent. We attempted to make our own advent calendars one year. Which given that we aren’t all that crafty didn’t exactly turn out as planned.

I’m not entirely sure how we stumbled across LEGO® Advent Calendars, but even Mr. Boo’s love of LEGO I suppose it was inevitable. The first year we had just one calendar which Mr. Boo, Roo and Tigger took in turns opening and constructing. Whilst it was fun, we soon discovered that there were different LEGO® Advent Calendars available. So the following year LEGO Star Wars, LEGO City and LEGO Friends advent calendars made their way into our home. And it’s been the same way ever since – you should see their faces when they first catch a glimpse of this seasons calendar.
