Smart Meter // How To Get A Smart Meter Installed

Just before Christmas, we received an email from our energy suppliers E.ON informing us about the Smart Meter rollout that is happening across the UK.  Between now and 2020 energy suppliers are offering households the opportunity to replace their current energy meters with Smart Meters.  The change over to a Smart Meter will allow energy suppliers the opportunity to take meter readings digitally and provide more accurate energy bills.  Partnered with an in-home display meter, householders are then able to track energy usage as well as the amount they are spending.

Smart Meter // Why we switched to a Smart Meter

Having both myself and Mr. Boo been made redundant in the past we are now more than ever aware of how our financial situation can change.  Having been reckless in the past with our budgeting we would like to think that we are in more control of our bills.  One of the areas that we have been blind to is our energy usage.  Although we have done the usual things like switch over to energy saving light bulbs etc.  Our energy bills each quarter are still higher than we would like.

Smart Meters // What is a Smart Meter?

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will have caught one of the adverts for the Smart Meter roll out.  Whether you’ve heard the radio advert in the car or vaguely recall seeing something as you waited for your favourite program to come on TV.

The short version of these adverts is that between now and 2020 energy suppliers are offering households across the UK the opportunity to switch over to a Smart Meter.  Sounds great right? But what is a Smart Meter?

Celebrating the end of school with Snapfish

Just like that, the end of the school year is approaching. I have mixed feelings about this as this year is slightly different for us.  Roo is counting down her final weeks of primary school – it doesn’t feel like two minutes since she started at the schools preschool.  I can still remember how beautiful and grown up she looked in her school uniform.  Now she is completing her SATs, preparing for one last school residential and eagerly awaiting the transition week across to high school for a taster of things to come.

BenQ WiT eReading Lamp

When using a computer screen, do we actually need to turn on a table lamp? Yes, for the reason that, if you do not turn on the light, the surroundings of the screen will be dark, while the screen itself is bright. This will create a sharp contrast between light and dark, which causes eyestrain or “contrast glare.”

This year will see Roo make the transition from primary school to high school.  Given that we live in a technology-driven world, it will come as no surprise that a large proportion of her work will be carried out electronically.  Whilst accessing the computers at home and school are all well and good, they are not portable.  With assessments and projects to be completed in groups alongside completing homework with friends, she is going to need something that is portable and functional.

Gaming: Make It A Family Affair!

A lot of people have plenty of stereotypes in their minds when they think about video games. They imagine the lonely nerd, shut away in their basement, hiding from the world while staring at a screen. And sure, there are probably people like that in the world today, and there really isn’t anything wrong with that, but gaming is far more popular than ever before. Pretty much everyone is gaming in some way these days, whether it’s on their computer, a console, or their phones.

VARTA My Power Bank

Whilst at Blog On Xmas last year I discovered VARTA, who besides having an amazing selection of batteries, produce power banks perfect for charging needs on the go.  A lightbulb moment when I realise that this could be the solution to Roo’s constant state of ‘I forgot to charge my phone again’.  We were kindly sent the VARTA My Power Bank recently to see if this would ease our charging problems.
