Big bed for a little man

January 11, 2013

Buying a child their first big bed is a very exciting time for the family, however with so many different styles to choose from knowing what to choose can be a little confusing.

Creating a soothing bedroom for sleep yet a fun room for play needn’t be a headache. With a little thought and careful planning, a child’s first bedroom can be fun to create and multi-functional when finished.

All kids love colour but they also love their favourite cartoon. It can be tempting to create a themed bedroom around the things they enjoy with wallpaper, rugs, curtains and bed all matching one another. This is fine if parents don’t mind having to re-decorate a few months later when their child’s taste has changed.

For those who want the room to age with their child, a better idea is to paint the walls in pleasant restful colours, and then go to town on accessorising with brightly coloured items and soft furnishings. Perhaps choose just one wall to hang themed wallpaper, which is cheaper and easier to change in the future.

Of course, the bed is the main furniture item to choose, and there are so many choices! This is a great time for indulging in a themed bed for the little one as they are built to keep kids safe and it will also encourage them to go to bed at night.

Alternatively small divan beds often have extra storage in the base, ideal for conveniently storing extra bed linen. Visit bedstardirect.co.uk to view a great range of beds and children’s beds.

If the family is left with no spare room now that the toddler has taken it over, think about putting a sofa bed in the kid’s bedroom. Perfect for those nights when he is sick and needs someone close by, mum or dad can be on hand through the night yet still have somewhere to sleep, and of course, ideal for guests too.

Colourful rugs, jolly pictures and a cute night light should be all that’s left to add to a toddlers room, making them feel relaxed and safe in their own little haven in the house.
