The world has really changed over the last eighteen months, and we have found ourselves experiencing a different way of life. For some people, that has meant staying at home more, working from home, and juggling homeschooling or fighting the urge to scream when you get the dreaded text that the school year bubble has burst. Although it is a sign of the times right now, and these restrictions have helped us navigate unprecedented times, it feels as though the world is opening back up again and life is returning to some form of normal we were used to.

Being outside, whether that is in the garden, or enjoying local parks and surroundings with your kids again is what this summer is going to be all about. So finding the right sort of outside entertainment as well as thinking of things you can do with your kids during the day might be dominating your thoughts right now. So here are some helpful tips and suggestions to help you make the most of the outdoors with your family this summer.

Making use of the garden

Being outside in the garden is always going to be a great option for the family. Not only is it the ideal space to enjoy quality time together, but being outside means your kids are less likely to sit around on devices all of the time. So it might be worth looking online at some outdoor toys for entertainment. It could be a trampoline or games and toys they can play with outside. This is a great way to keep them entertained and perfect for if they have some friends around.

Ideas for the garden

  • Enjoy a BBQ with family or friends
  • Share the childcare load and have your children’s friends around. They can play outside and the favour could be returned when you need it.
  • Encourage exercise and daily activity to keep everyone energised and happy.
  • Soak up the Vitamin D with garden games and outdoor toys such as the Smoby Supermarket.

What you can do outside of your home

If you don’t have a garden or want to enjoy being able to set outside of your home whenever you want, you might be thinking about some of the ways you can enjoy being outside.

Going to the local park

It might feel like a novelty, but heading to your local park still offers up plenty of things that you can do during the day. Many parks have outdoor play areas with equipment that your children can enjoy. As well as having open spaces ideal for picnics or ball games. You could even see this as an opportunity to teach your children to ride a bike. Being confident on a bike will give you flexibility for other things to do during the summer holidays. Finding the right kids bikes is key, and ensuring that they are the right size and age-appropriate.

Heading out for bike rides

As mentioned, once your kids are confident on their bikes you could also head out for bike rides locally, or invest in a bike rack and head out to a few new places. This is the perfect family activity and gives you a chance to do something a little different.

Explore your local surroundings or head somewhere new

You may have realised that there was a lot more to offer locally during the lockdowns, so now is the ideal time to take advantage of it. Head to new countryside locations, or find new parks to explore. Further to that, now that restrictions have eased, you could start venturing out of your local area and find some new outdoor places to enjoy.

Tips for choosing the perfect kids bikes and teaching them how to ride it

Learning to ride a bike will likely be a memory that you have etched in your mind. So no doubt you want to create the same sort of memories with your children. However, finding the right bike and ultimately teaching your child to ride it might not be as easy as you imagine. So here are a few tips to help you out.

Make sure the bike is the right height

There are obviously small and big bikes, so it is important for you to ensure that the bike you have chosen for your child is the right height for them. You can amend the height of the handlebars and seat to customise it for your child, but a great tip is to ensure that they can stand with their bike between them comfortably.

Ensure you have all the right safety accessories

Another great tip is to ensure that you have all of the right safety accessories and equipment to keep your child safe. This is important when they are learning and also a confident bike rider. Looking online for bike accessories will help you determine what it is you need. A helmet, knee, and elbow pads would be advisable.

Final points

Make sure you find an area that is flat and away from busy roads. This will help give your child confidence and not have to perry about other potential dangers. Last, of all, this might not come easy for your child. Everyone is different. So have patience.

Hopefully, these tips and suggestions will help you have an incredible summer outside.
