For the bolognese sauce
  1. 1 onion
  2. 1 carrot
  3. 500g minced beef (the leaner the better)
  4. 1 can of tomatoes
  5. A pinch of salt and pepper
  6. A sprinkling of dried oregano or mixed Italian herbs
For the white sauce
  1. 50g/2oz margarine
  2. 50g/2oz plain flour
  3. 550ml/1pt milk
  4. A pinch of salt and pepper
For the topping
  1. 8 sheets of lasagne pasta
  2. 100g/4oz grated cheddar cheese
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark4
  2. Peel and chop the onion and carrot
  3. Place the onion, carrot and minced beef in a saucepan and cook gently until the mince has browned
  4. Add the tomatoes, seasoning and herbs, place lid on the pan and slimmer for 20 minutes
  5. In a separate pan make the white sauce by an all in one method. Place all the ingredients in pan and bring to boil, stirring constantly. Simmer for 3 mins until thick and smooth
  6. Arrange layers of bolognese sauce, lasagne sheets and white sauce in two layers within a casserole
  7. Sprinkle with grated cheese
  8. Bake for approximately 30 minutes
  9. Serve hot with a crisp salad and garlic bread
  1. If you have fussy eaters or children who do not like chunks cook the onions and carrots separately, add the tomatoes and blend until smooth before adding to the browned mince.
