A delicious and hearty beef lasagne
For the bolognese sauce
- 1 onion
- 1 carrot
- 500g minced beef (the leaner the better)
- 1 can of tomatoes
- A pinch of salt and pepper
- A sprinkling of dried oregano or mixed Italian herbs
For the white sauce
- 50g/2oz margarine
- 50g/2oz plain flour
- 550ml/1pt milk
- A pinch of salt and pepper
For the topping
- 8 sheets of lasagne pasta
- 100g/4oz grated cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark4
- Peel and chop the onion and carrot
- Place the onion, carrot and minced beef in a saucepan and cook gently until the mince has browned
- Add the tomatoes, seasoning and herbs, place lid on the pan and slimmer for 20 minutes
- In a separate pan make the white sauce by an all in one method. Place all the ingredients in pan and bring to boil, stirring constantly. Simmer for 3 mins until thick and smooth
- Arrange layers of bolognese sauce, lasagne sheets and white sauce in two layers within a casserole
- Sprinkle with grated cheese
- Bake for approximately 30 minutes
- Serve hot with a crisp salad and garlic bread
Notes
- If you have fussy eaters or children who do not like chunks cook the onions and carrots separately, add the tomatoes and blend until smooth before adding to the browned mince.
