The Perfect Bed

We’re going to kick things off by talking about getting the perfect bed for your child. You can shop around, looking into different options, and making a decision on what you think they would like the best. Of course, you can go for the standard single bed but that doesn’t mean that it has to be boring. There are plenty of pretty single beds out there, and it’s just a case of finding one that fits with the rest of the space. What we mean by this is that you don’t want to go for a pink bed if you know that you’re going for a clashing color on the walls and so on.

If you know that your child likes to have sleepovers, and you want to ensure that there is always somewhere for their guests to sleep, you might even decide to get bunk beds. What kid doesn’t love bunk beds? They can decide which one they want to sleep on, even going as far as to swap around as they feel like it.

Or, you might decide that you know your child would love a bed that had a ladder so they were a little further up off the floor, but without being a bunk bed. There are also bespoke beds that you can purchase, making sure that it’s perfect for what your kid would love.

The Right Color

Then you’ve got to think about the color of the room overall. We know that for a lot of people the urge is to just go for either a shade of pink or blue, but you don’t have to stick with this. You can if you want and you think that this is what your little one would love, but there are other options. A lot of the time, parents are worried about making the room too grown up for their kids, but this shouldn’t be too much of a concern.

Think about your child’s favorite color and see if you can find a nice shade of this for their walls. You may even decide that you want to use two shades, or even two different colors entirely. An example of this would be if you have a child that loves the color pink, but four pink walls seems like a bit much to you. You could use something like an off-white on one wall or so, just to give some sort of contrast. Or, even have the top half pink and the bottom half white, or vice versa.

When you’re choosing colors though, ensure that you are checking what they look like on the wall before you purchase a whole tin of paint. Samples are your friend, and you can even let your kid pick out of the samples that you’ve got just to be on the safe side.

Choose A Theme

A lot of kids love a themed bedroom, so this might be something for you to consider. Some of the most common ones are dinosaurs, princesses, space, or animal themed. Of course, you don’t want to choose a theme that your child has no interest in because that’s just pointless, so you really need to think about this before you go through with any purchases, otherwise it could end up just being a waste of your money.

Again, this is something that a lot of parents consult their kids about just to ensure that they are heading down the right lines. They might surprise you and choose something that you wouldn’t have even considered for them, but they get really excited about it. The great thing about this is that you can ask them pretty much at any age, as even younger children know what they like. Just ensure that they know you’re not changing it in a couple of months so they have to be sure.

Creative With Storage

If you’re working with a smaller space, then you’ve got to do your best to ensure that you’re getting creative with storage. There’s under the bed storage options, there’s corner storage units available, and really a whole range of options. It’s all about researching, thinking about how much space you’ve got in the room, and then going from there.

It might even be worth looking into bespoke storage solutions so that you can be sure it’s going to fit nicely into the bedroom. Sure, these are a little on the pricier side, but that’s okay because they will last for years to come.

Color Changing Light

In order to create a calming atmosphere, try adding a color changing light to your child’s room. We aren’t talking about providing them with a rave, just a soothing light bulb that changes color at the click of a button. Children love buttons so it is always best to ask them what color they would like, rather than giving them the remote. Otherwise, yo

Put A Cozy Corner In

Have you ever heard of a cozy corner? Libraries often have them where you can go and chill with a good book, enjoying some quiet time. If your children like quiet time every so often then provide them with this. They can then take themselves off and come back once they have re-regulated themselves. If home life becomes too much for you sometimes, then children can experience this also. They need a safe space to chill when it all becomes a bit noisy, crazy, or manic.

When designing and creating your cozy corner, think about what you can add to make it even better. You could place cushions and throws, even a reading pillow would be fantastic. A nice little bookcase for their favorite stories, and perhaps a canopy to drape around them. This will make any child feel like a prince or princess when reading and chilling out.

As Minimal As Possible

Children’s bedrooms should be kept as minimal as possible. This is because children can find it extremely difficult to switch between play time and bedtime. If they frequently use their room to play then you will already have a tricky time on your hands. Keeping things minimal doesn’t mean providing them with nothing to play with or look at. If you want your child to develop a healthy sleep routine then bedtime should be stuck to at a certain time, 7pm for example.

Before this time, children should be given a warning to put all their toys away. Use storage to keep the room as minimal as possible for bedtime. The last thing you want is to wake up at 3am to find your child playing with their new favorite barbie doll!

Keep It On The Shelf

Lastly, shelves can be incredibly helpful in any space. However, they can be especially helpful when trying to keep your child’s room as neat and tidy as possible. There are many shelving options out there, from ones with pretty shapes to floating ones where you can’t see the bracket. Shelving comes down to personal preference and whatever you think looks nice. It could help to look online for some inspiration, see what other parents have done with shelving ideas in their child’s bedroom.

It might be that your child has a Tonie box and needs somewhere to store the characters and box itself. You can now get a shelf designed specially for this and the characters stick to the shelves with little magnets in the wood. Shelves are so versatile you can use them for just about anything and everything. If they have a huge collection of soft toys for instance then they could be put up on shelves.
