Easy Ways to Keep Kids Entertained Indoors

April 6, 2020

AD | Gifted

Now that most schools have closed down for weeks with no end in sight, it’s time to think about how you’ll keep the kids entertained indoors. Social distancing is being enforced, which means you may not be able to enjoy a day at the park or local museum, but you can keep the kids busy at home. These easy suggestions are something any family can do regardless of finances or free time.

Virtual Museum Tours

Many museums have virtual tours that your kids can enjoy for some entertainment while they’re home from school. This is an excellent way to make sure your kids are learning something all the while enjoying an education at home.

Scavenger Hunt

Make a list of things your kids can find in the home. Create colour-themed scavenger lists, category themed scavenger lists and other creative ideas. This will keep kids of all ages entertained for hours on end while they search the house.

Yoga Kids

Yoga is a relaxing exercise that can help keep your kids balanced all the while giving them something to be physically active indoors. Find yoga kids online or purchase a DVD set to give you kids something to do during your many weeks at home together.

Board Games

Get out the family board games so that the kids can spend hours playing competitive games together. If you don’t have many family board games, you can find free kids game printables online to print out and let the kids create their own unique board game fun.

Obstacle Course

Gather up various materials and move the furniture around to have an obstacle course. Let your kids create their own obstacle course and use a timer to see who can complete this fast enough. This is an excellent way to use creativity and get physical exercise.

Reading

Whilst reading might not be a child’s first choice of activity, it is something that can be completed as a family. Take it in turns to read a page or a chapter aloud so that you all get to enjoy listening to the story unfold. Alternatively, you could utilise audiobooks, which is currently available free whilst the schools are closed.

There you have it, just a few simple ideas to keep kids entertained indoors while you’re stuck home for weeks with kids. The coronavirus outbreak has changed many of our lives, and that’s why it’s important that we work together to make sure our kids are entertained during this time
