Devonshire beaches to explore on your next caravan staycation

Blackpool Sands Beach, Devonshire

Blackpool Sands Beach

Set against the pines and rolling South Hams countryside, the crescent moon-shaped beach consists of both sand and shingle.

There are sandpit areas for children to play and build the best sandcastles, whilst the sea offers the opportunity to try out kayaking and paddle boarding. If you haven’t got a wet suit, don’t worry, as there are local places to hire suits and equipment.

At lunch, there are a few local places you could grab a bite to eat, or you could keep the holiday fun going with a beach picnic!

Woolacombe beach, Devonshire

Woolacombe Beach

This award-winning beach is widely recognised as one of the best beaches in the UK, and it’s hard to disagree once you step onto the three-mile-long stretch of sand.

Located along Devon’s north coast, between Croyde and Ilfracombe, this stretch of beach is popular with surfers for the awesome tides that roll towards the sands, and families who are looking for a quintessentially British, yet traditional seaside experience.

  • Beach Type: Sandy
  • Lifeguard service: Yes
  • Dogs: Dogs are banned within certain zones between May to October, but are allowed in adjacent areas if kept on a lead

Westward Ho! Beach, Devonshire

Westward Ho! Beach

With the main beach backed by grasslands of the Northam Burrows Country Park, this stretch of beach is the ideal spot for those that love to swim, surf, kayak and paddle board in the open waters.

If water sports aren’t your thing – the long flat beach is the ideal spot for some safe sunbathing, so don’t forget your sunscreen!

This section of the Devonshire coastline is known for its dramatic cliffs and Westwood Ho! is no exception. Its location falls within the North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

  • Beach Type: Sandy
  • Lifeguard service: Yes
  • Dogs: Dogs aren’t allowed on the majority of the beach between 1st May and 30th September, although there’s a 200-metre section where dogs are allowed all year, in front of Sandymere

So, will you be taking a trip to one of the beaches above when you visit for a staycation? Or, have you got a favourite Devonshire beach that isn’t on our list? Whichever beach you decide to visit, don’t forget your sunscreen, bucket, spade and a well-deserved picnic!
