Calorie Counting Christmas: Can You Maintain Your Diet Whilst Indulging In Holiday Treats?

December 11, 2014

There are some people who are on a permanent, year-round diet, but when the holidays arrive, dieting is simply forgotten.

We tend to forget about our health and eat as many Christmas treats as we can without thinking of the consequences.

However, you can still enjoy a hearty Christmas meal even if you are on a diet with a few simple changes. The tips below will ensure that you get to enjoy your yearly Christmas meal without needing to detox in the New Year!

Portion control

It can be difficult to control yourself when you are presented with a Christmas feast with all your favorite dishes. The key is to control the portions that you eat. If you want to get a taste of everything, make sure that you eat just a small amount of each dish. If you are dining with people who are also on diets, limit the portions served.

According to studies, the more food we are served, the more we tend to eat.

Cooking methods

Another way you can enjoy a holiday meal while maintaining your diet is to check your cooking methods. Think about cooking methods you could use to make your Christmas meal healthier. Try poaching, roasting, grilling or steaming instead of frying.

You could also use alternative ingredients that are healthier. By doing this, you can still enjoy a festive meal fit for a King without all the hidden calories.

Exercise during the holidays

Many people tend to forget exercising during the holidays. But it’s important to try to maintain some regular exercise, so you don’t pile on the pounds during holiday season.

Why not change up your exercise routine to keep you motivated? You could even try winter sports for a change. Go skiing, play outside with the children, or take a walk outside to enjoy the cool breeze. You don’t have to be stuck in the gym to get your exercise.

Don’t have an empty stomach

Aside from the holiday meal that you will be sharing with your friends and family, you will also be invited to plenty of Christmas parties. Make it a point to have a snack before attending the event, even if it’s just an apple or a few crackers.

Having an empty stomach makes you eat (and drink) more, whereas if you have a snack, you won’t be eating as much when you attend those grand parties.

Be wary of leftovers

After having a Christmas meal, you will most likely have some tasty leftovers. To avoid eating those all by yourself, portion leftovers among your friends and family for them to take home. By doing this, you’ll keep your calorie intake down, as you won’t be tempted to finish everything by yourself just to avoid food wastage.

Christmas is a time for celebration, and no celebration is complete without hearty and extravagant meals. However, you can still indulge in a holiday feast without compromising your health and diet. There are plenty of meals that are both healthy and tasty.

Choose holiday recipes from www.kraftrecipes.com that you can enjoy this Christmas season. Remember, eating healthy doesn’t have to mean skipping those delicious holiday meals!
