Turn Your Bathroom into a Wet Room

August 3, 2016

When it comes to remodelling, it’s hard to know where to begin. Do you start with the biggest room first? Do you begin with the space that is going to cost the most amount of money? Or the space in which you’ll spend most of your time? Hint, choose a space that will give you the most joy when you see it fresh and redone.

A great place to start is the bathroom. Perhaps your bathroom needs updating or maybe you’re just ready for something new. Either way, a wet room can fulfil every wish and every need.

What is a wet room?

A wet room is a completely waterproof shower area that is installed on the same level as the rest of the bathroom floor. It can be used as a type of steam room. In a wet room, there are no glass doors or barriers. It’s open and things such as shower trays and steps are removed to create one flowing space. With the proper placement of wet room drains, there is a lower risk of flooding.

Wet rooms are great because they are convenient!

Stop opening and closing door or curtains. Don’t step over shower trays or into a bathtub. Wet rooms are ideal for homes with small bathroom spaces. They create an open concept, allowing the space to look and feel larger.

If your space is too small and water splash may be an issue, a single glass partition is allowed in the creation of a wet room. This will stop water from splashing onto the toilet, countertop or towels, for example.

Also, a wet room is a great advantage to those with mobility issues. The floor is all one level, which makes it easier and safer to navigate.

Another important point for consideration is that in the future if you plan on selling your home, a wet room could substantially increase the value of your property, such is their rising popularity. Here, however, you may wish to keep one traditional bathroom in your home so that you can be sure that prospective buyers have a familiar alternative available to them, also.

Another advantage to installing a wet room is how clean they can be in comparison to a traditional bathroom. A wet room is installed with waterproof tiles, making it easier to wipe clean. You no longer have to worry about getting the glass spotless.

Installing a wet room can be quite a large project. If you aren’t familiar with how to remodel a bathroom, call in a professional.
