A bedroom with a bed and desk in a hotel room

Travelodge Birmingham Central Bullring

April 10, 2017

Over the last few years, we have found ourselves spending several days in the Birmingham area. We seem to gravitate that way for fun at Drayton Manor Park or Cadbury World. Visiting the area at least four or five times over the course of the children’s school holidays. However, it suddenly occurred to us as we started to plan the Easter holidays that we haven’t really been in the centre of Birmingham. Not really sure why we have missed out on all the activities and shopping that Birmingham has to offer.

So with a planned visit to the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham, we thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to stay in the centre of the city. When it came to booking a hotel for the five of us, the Travelodge Birmingham Central Bullring ticked all the boxes for what we needed as a family.

Location

The Travelodge Birmingham Central Bullring is located just a few minutes walk from the Bullring shopping centre. Also within easy walking distance for the O2 Academy, Barclaycard Arena and the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham.

Being in the city centre you might think that parking would be an issue. Travelodge have this covered with at least two local car parks within five minutes of the hotel. With the China Town car park offering Travelodge guests a discounted rate of £3.00 fo up to 24 hours parking (absolute bargain for city centre parking).

Family Room

Our base whilst visiting Birmingham was a large and spacious family room. With five of us all in in one room, it was lovely to see that there was still plenty of space to relax and unwind in after a busy day in the city.

The family room benefits from a large king size bed, two pull out single beds and travel cots that can be booked in advance so that you don’t need to bring one with you.

With an array of facilities, it was a little home away from home for the night, complete with a modern and clean bathroom featuring both a bath and shower (perfect for families). A small area for coats and clothing was available just behind the door – which although there wasn’t a wardrobe or large shelving area for clothes and essentials to be stored within the room. I actually preferred this as it meant that there was less chance of me forgetting to bring something home with us and unless you are staying several days, do you really need to fully unpack?

A wall mounted TV and a dressing table come desk, come beverage area completed the room in the corner with a large mirror above it (perfect for hair straightening and applying makeup).

Restaurant

Food on a table

One of the things that we like to do when we are on holiday is to enjoy a full breakfast after a good nights sleep. So we were pleased to find that the Travelodge had its own restaurant available on the ground floor. Serving a selection of both cooked and continental breakfast items, it is reasonably priced at just £8.25 per adult with children under 16 eating free.

Boo Roo and Tigger Too’s thoughts…

As a family of five, I often worry that we will feel cramped within one hotel room, especially with a travel cot taking up a proportion of the available floor space. This was not the case during our stay, with a large family room available to us and lots of space for Piglet to toddle about as well as the older two enjoy playing with puzzles etc that they had brought with them.

Our room was up on the seventh floor, which at first thought might seem inconvenient for a family with a pushchair etc. However, with three lifts there wasn’t an issue accessing our room as needed. Plus staying towards the top of the hotel meant that we were away from the hustle and bustle of the city as well having great views over the city.
