Transform your bedroom without redecorating

March 4, 2015

I think as a parent my bedroom is sometimes forgotten, and I imagine it is the same for most parents too. It becomes the room you collapse in a heap in after a long, tiring day. The room where the laundry waiting to be put away lives. The room that houses things you don’t really know where they should go but can’t be bothered to put in the loft. It is time to reclaim your bedroom for the once tranquil place it was before children.

Transforming your bedroom can seem a big task, an expensive task however there are three things that you can do to transform your bedroom without redecorating…

Bedlinen

A large bed sitting in a roomThere is nothing like fresh bedlinen, to both look at and more importantly to slip between after a long day. Updating your bedlinen can really transform the look and feel of your bedroom. With so many different options to chose from it can be difficult to select just one set of bedlinen for your room.

Whether you opt for cool, crisp white bedlinen like you find in hotels (which apparently makes you sleep better), something with a splash of colour or something bright and bold, you will change the feel of the room with this new addition.

Personally I like the mix of crisp white bedlinen with a tint of colour like this Silver Vienna bedlinen from Dunelm Mill. It gives the room a little warm whilst still looking elegant.

Headboard

A close up of a keyboardI don’t know about you but I cannot sleep in a bed that has no headboard, there is something unfinished about the bed. Changing your headboard can really give your room a face lift, whether you are changing style or colour they really are a great statement piece that make your bed that little more inviting.

Personally I love a large headboard similar to ones that you see in hotels, a padded headboard that gives me the comfort when I lean against it to read a book or watch a movie in bed. The Sealy Borwick headboard gives me all of these qualities.

Wallpaper has become much more fashionable over the past few years with a variety of different designs available. Why not add a splash of your favourite wallpaper by either framing pieces of wallpaper in picture frames and then hanging on the walls. You could even cover existing wall canvasses with wallpaper or fabric to give them a new lease of life without having to pay out extra on frames.

Personally I love the mismatch approach by buying a photo frame that holds multiple photos and adding different types of wallpaper (I’m loving the Contour Tree from B&Q), cards or inspiration quotes that I’ve printed out.

What changes would you make to transform your bedroom without decorating?
