Time for a Spring Clean?

April 20, 2013

As the weather has finally decided to act a little more like Spring it’s probably about time for a Spring clean, de-clutter and freshen up in the Boo Roo and Tigger Too household.

Where to start, I really want to give the house a good going over but with the builders due to start work on the bedrooms I’m not sure what to do for the best.

Whilst the building work is taking place upstairs I’m hoping to utilise my time indoors by cleaning out the kitchen cupboards, re-organising and de-cluttering the junk stored on top the wall cupboards. So I’ve been looking around for inspiration Super Savvy Me have some cleaning tips which look very helpful.

They have a fabulous 10 Spring Cleaning Tips post which has some ideas I would never have thought about. The tops of the kitchen cupboard for instance, I tend to put this job off as it is always dirty, dusty and greasy. After looking at this top tip…

Cupboard tops – the tops of kitchen cupboards get greasy as well as dusty. Lay down sheets of newspaper along the tops (cut them so they are out of sight), then simply change them when you want to clean.

…I’m much more inclined to clear the junk, give them a good scrub (knowing it will be the last time I have to do it) and then cover them in newspaper.

Another of their top tips I’ll be implementing…

Buff lightbulbs – to give instant bright shine. Do this carefully and not while lights are switched on or hot from use. Bulbs and light shades often attract dust and can benefit from a careful dusting.

We have uplighter lamps in the living room and dining room and I often think that it looks dark in those rooms but won’t have thought about wiping over the lightbulbs. Goodbye darkness, hello light!

I know that my carpets downstairs are going to take a pounding. Emmy’s Mummy did a post about a carpet cleaner last year and got me thinking that I will need to look into hiring/purchasing one after the works have been completed.

I’m hoping that with a good clean out and more of a routine of when I clean etc it will take me less time, and become more manageable. Failing that I’m going to be looking out for some residential cleaning services like those provided by Ideal Cleaning Services.

Do you have a good clean out once or twice a year?
Any top tips you want to share with me?
