Silver Cross Wayfarer {Newborn Carrycot}

February 25, 2016

Not long after I found out I was expecting Piglet that I found myself in my local Toys R Us with the Mr Boo and the children. Normally I would just glance at the Babies R Us section and walk on by. Knowing that we were to welcome a third baby into the family meant that I was finally able to wander freely between the aisles and, of course, swoon over the many pushchairs.

That visit saw me fall in love with the Silver Cross Wayfarer and despite many (many) visits to various baby stores, no other pram was able to sway me away from my first love. With each visit to Mothercare, Boots and Toys R Us I would test drive the Silver Cross Wayfarer around the store, taking the time to learn how to add the different components, how to fold it and how to manoeuvre it around.

Newborn Carrycot Assembly

The Wayfarer newborn carrycot comes flat packed and requires some easy assembly:

  • Push the two internal u-shaped bars across the base until they click into the locking blocks
  • Place the bamboo lining fabric into the carrycot and zip into place around the top
  • Add the deep padded mattress
  • Click the hood into place and secure the with the velcro tabs
  • Add the padded Silver Cross bar across the width of the carrycot
  • Attach the apron around the carrycot with velcro strips and two internal clips

How to attach the newborn carrycot

To add the newborn carrycot to the Wayfarer chassis simply click the unit into place by sliding the connecting rods into the slots either side of the chassis. To remove the newborn carrycot lift the flaps either side of the newborn carrycot and lift upwards.

Apron and hood

When purchasing the Silver Cross Wayfarer system you are able to select which colour apron and hood you received. The apron and hood will then fit on both the newborn carrycot and the seat unit.

The Silver Cross Wayfarer apron and hood set are available in seven different colour ways enabling you to change the colour of your pram if you wanted. Personally, I loved the damson purple which is the colour option I chose when ordering however I have since seen the raspberry colour way and I’m thinking that I might need to purchase an extra hood and apron, just in case and for those days when Piglet is wearing pink.

Moses Basket

The newborn carrycot is more than just a pram unit, it can also be utilised as a Moses basket making travelling with your little one much easier. With a bamboo liner and padded mattress makes for comfortable sleeping quarters.

Wheels

The Wayfarer chassis is built for the urban lifestyle. The inline wheels enable you to manoeuvre through doorways, stores and pathways without worrying that the rear wheels will get caught. With the ability to lock the front wheels or having them able to free-wheel it gives you the option to control manoeuvrability depending on your needs.

Brake

The brake is located on the right-hand rear wheel and is a simple press to lock and a depress of the green button on top to release them.

Folding

A little girl with a pink umbrellaTo fold the Wayfarer chassis, you need to depress the button on the top of the right-hand side of the handlebar whilst pulling up on the loops either side of the handlebar. The newborn carrycot and Simplicity car seat must be removed before folding. The seat unit, however, can remain in place if in the forward facing position.

When folded the Wayfarer chassis is able to stand upright  making it easier to store. The folded chassis along with the newborn carrycot can take up a considerable amount of space within your boot however as this is an urban style pushchair it is unlikely to be stored within  your boot which is why the ability to store it standing within your home is a key feature.

Adjustable handlebar height

By depressing the button in the middle of the handlebar, you are able to adjust the height of the handlebar to four different heights to allow for perfect pushing comfort.

Shopping basket

A generous shopping basket allows you lots of space for shopping bags, baby accessories – Although it is difficult to access the shopping basket when the newborn carrycot is in place as the gap is quite narrow to squeeze bags through.

Cup holder

Whether you are carrying a water bottle for yourself or just need easy access to little ones juice cup the cup holder will ease your hydration issues. It can be placed on either the left or right-hand side and is easy to remove when it is not required.

The Wayfarer chassis comes with adapters to allow you to add the Silver Cross Simplicity car seat which is suitable from birth to 13kg.

Being able to convert the Wayfarer into a travel system enables the school run and quick trips into the shops much easier rather than having to disturb a sleeping baby from the car into the newborn carrycot or seat unit.

Boo Roo and Tigger Too’s thoughts…

Piglet is almost three months old and we have been putting the Silver Cross Wayfarer through its paces almost everyday. I have to say that I am just as in love with it now as I was on that very first test drive. My previous pushchairs have always given me a pang of regret and feelings that I should have completed more research before I bought it – The Silver Cross Wayfarer, however, hasn’t given me any regrets. The ride is smooth and comfortable for Piglet and I always joke that if I am unable to get her to sleep I can pop her in the Wayfarer as it never fails to soothe her.

The ride is smooth and comfortable for Piglet and I always joke that if I am unable to get her to sleep I can pop her in the Wayfarer as it never fails to soothe her. The adjustable handlebar height enables us all to take turns to push Piglet, from the lowest setting for Roo and Tigger, the middle setting for myself and highest setting for Mr Boo. The shopping basket is a good size for carrying all the school bags etc on the school run and is perfect for the daysacks on a family day out. It is a little frustrating trying to squeeze the bags under the newborn carrycot as the gap is quite narrow so I simply lift up the carrycot whilst the children place the bigger bags underneath before I pop the newborn carrycot back on again.

Price and Availability

The Silver Cross Wayfarer is priced at £595.00 and is available direct from Silver Cross as well as all major baby retailers, which often have great offers one where you purchase the Silver Cross Wayfarer and you receive the Silver Cross Ssimplicity car seat free of charge.
