Shrek’s Adventure! London {Review}

July 26, 2015

At the weekend the Boo Roo and Tigger Too household took a special family trip down to London for the day. Kicking off the start of the school summer holidays with a bang by visiting the new Shrek’s Adventure! London attraction.

The Shrek’s Adventure! London attraction is located on the South Bank happily sandwiched between the SEA LIFE London Aquarium and The London Dungeons. The doors officially opened at the beginning of July and has had a steady stream of excited visitors make its way through the doors. With bookings available to the public at the moment and opening up to be included within your Merlin Annual Pass from September 1st it is set to be on everyone’s must visit list.

What’s included

  • Entry to all NEW Shrek’s Adventure! London attraction
  • 10 live actor shows and magical 4D bus ride
  • Meet all of your favourite Shrek & DreamWorks’ characters
  • Shrek’s Adventure! London is suitable for children aged 6-12 (and for those younger knights and princesses feeling especially brave)

Shrek’s Adventure! London experience

With timed entry slots that have to be booked you need to make sure that you arrive at the attraction up to 15 minutes before your time so that you can collect your tickets from the booking office. Once your time slot is being accepted you are then directed into the attraction where your tickets and bags are checked before waiting to have a couple of green screen photos taken and a wristband is issued (this has a barcode on that contains all your photos taken throughout the experience).

A statue of a toyFollowing a short lift journey you are then guided through to the baggage claim area where you are able to leave pushchairs and large bags (saves you having to carry them around the experience) before you then have another green screen experience. After which you attend a fun-filled briefing on the experience and the rules you need to follow – honestly the gentleman we had really got everyone involved and made what would be a boring rule run through fun.

Finally making it into the main experience we are greeted by Fiona who starts us on our journey to find Shrek, along with a sing-song to I’m a believer. The story truly kicks off with a ride on the 4D magical experience which unfortunately I wasn’t able to take part in as I’m pregnant along with another pregnant lady. I was disappointed to see that this isn’t noted on the website as had I attended the attraction with just Roo and Tigger they wouldn’t have been able to take part in the 4D cinema either as guests have to be over 1.3m to go on without an adult. Thankfully Fiona stayed with myself and the other lady and explained what was happening in the 4D cinema which only lasts around 3-4 minutes.

Once reunited with the rest of the family we were guided from room to room meeting various characters from the Shrek films, with some tasks that needed to be completed along the way. With a mixture of fun and surprises (which might be a little frightening for little ones but Tigger loved the different interactive elements of the tour). After completing all the challenges you finally get to meet Shrek! and he was more than happy to pose for photos!

Before leaving the attraction you can then wander freely around the Dreamworks section which houses, Kung-Fu Panda, Penguins of Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon. With different exhibitions to interact and take your photo with. At the end of the attraction you are able to scan the barcode on the wristband you were given at the beginning to view all your green screen photos that were taken along the Shrek’s Adventure! experience. You are able to purchase the photos, keyrings and a souvenir book for £25.00 which I think is on par with other similar attractions.

Boo Roo and Tigger Too’s thoughts…

We had great fun visiting Shrek’s Adventure! London and can see it being somewhere that we would happily visit again later in the year or maybe next year. Even though Tigger is only 4 years old he was quite happy with the different sections along the tour with only the occasional fright but nothing that gave him cause for concern.

The group size per tour was around 20 people which I felt was a good size as we were all able to see what was happening in each room and it didn’t feel too cramped.
