Reuse, Recycle and Save!

November 13, 2015

Until a few years ago we lived in a throwaway society, opting to throw something out rather than getting in mended or trying to use it in another way. Nowadays I hope that most of us have moved into the mend and make do society, where we try to reuse items, recycle where possible and in the process save money (which I think you’d agree we could all do with saving some money).

I’m as guilty as the next person of throwing something away as it is seen as too much hassle to get it fixed or reuse for something else, however my thoughts were suddenly changed when Mr Boo was made redundant a few years ago. Suddenly we had to account for every penny that was coming in and how we spent it. We made changes around the home such as changing light bulbs to energy-saving ones, added draft excluder’s, turned down the thermostat etc to save money on our energy bills.

We also changed the way that we bought and prepared food, with meal planning and leftovers utilised and being more frugal when we came to doing the weekly shop. With the recent introduction of the 5p shopping bag charge we have been mindful to take our own bags with us to save having to pay out for shopping bags. Taking packed lunches to work and on days out has saved us the most money on a weekly basis instead of popping to the local bakery for a sandwich and drink etc.

Going green brings with it advantages. This new infographic from 4imprint shows how that by making small changes in your daily routine could help to lessen your impact on the environment and, in doing so, allows for savings as much as £11.90 per day. This equates to more than £3,000 per year!

What are you doing to reduce your carbon footprint?
