It’s The Perfect Time To Redecorate! Home Decorating Tips For Autumn To Winter

September 20, 2016

While you can redecorate your home at any point of the year, September is the best time to start. With the summer ending and the kids back in school, you’ll have more time on your hands. When it gets colder, you’re less likely to want to go out and will probably be spending more time inside.

Redecorating your home is a great project to take on throughout Autumn and Winter to keep yourself occupied. Plus, doesn’t everyone love having a beautiful home in time for Christmas? There are plenty of projects to take on in the upcoming months. Here are some decorating tips for you to consider.

Rehaul The Walls

It’s a fantastic time to repaint the walls. Colour psychology shows that the shades you use in each room can affect your mood. You might want to add some warm, comforting tones to contrast the increasing rainfall outside!

Strong colours like red and orange can stimulate your mind. People often use these for social rooms, like the living and dining room. When painting your bathroom, you might want some bright, positive colours like yellow or green to wake you up when you’re showering.

But remember – paint isn’t the only option to rehaul your walls. You may want some wallpaper to style things up. Young children like having designs of their favourite TV characters or sports teams up on the wall. You might even want to add some wall stencils or stickers to personalise their rooms for them. To customise their rooms even further, maybe consider buying a printed canvas of their passion from Printerpix?

You don’t have to sort out every wall yourself, either. Painters and decorators can handle the whole job for you for a fair price. You can leave the hard work to them and focus more on the fun stuff!

Re-Furnish And Renovate

Furniture is what ties a room together. The way you furnish your living room, bedrooms, and kitchen can often dictate the whole style of the room. A lot of homeowners use any old furniture when they first move in, as the cost is more of a concern than style. But when you have time to plan out a home redecoration, it’s best to get some quality furniture you’ll love to use and look at.

With the leaves falling outside, you ought to give your home a seasonal feel. You can buy oak furniture online to give your dining room, bedroom or other parts of the house an Autumnal atmosphere.

When it gets colder, you’ll appreciate your time in bed and in the shower even more. It’s prime time for a bathroom renovation to enjoy those hot morning showers more. You might also want a new mattress and maybe even an electric blanket to keep you warm and cosy in bed.

Furniture stores usually offer sales throughout the year. However, seasonal changes are a prime time to pick up some bargain. Do your shopping soon and get some great furnishings to spruce up the home.

Add Lighting And Decorations

With your rooms painted and furnished, you’ll want to add some finishing touches. As the months lead into winter, the days are going to get darker sooner. Therefore, it’s a good time to spruce up your lighting. Look for some stylish lighting tips to make your rooms look warm and bright!

Sometimes grandiose light fixtures aren’t the best bet. You’ll probably be spending more on heating later on in the year, so you might want to cut down on energy bills. Installing economical light bulbs is a smart idea. You could also consider halogen lamps or bulbs. These give off a lot of heat, making for a unique way to keep rooms warm.

Of course, you’ll also want to add some decorations. You’ll probably have more home visitors as the holiday season comes, so put up some nice pictures and family photos. You could also ask the kids if there are any additions they want to their rooms. Check out some fall decorating ideas for inspiration.

It’s also better to buy seasonal decorations in advance. Halloween decorations will be more expensive closer to the date, and the same applies to Christmas. It’s better to buy them now before prices rise.

Spruce Up Your Garden

You might use your garden less, but don’t completely neglect it. Be sure to take care of your lawn and trim the hedges. Different plants grow at different times of the year, so you might want to plant some September flowers. Falling leaves can be gorgeous in Autumn so you could even consider planting a tree.

Even though you might not find much use for patio furniture, it might be best to buy it now. Outdoor furniture often gets serious discounts at the end of summer, so you can get some excellent prices while they’re not in high demand.
