Parenting is like doing IKEA flat pack without the instructions

June 18, 2015

There are days when I think that I’m finally getting the hang of being a parent. As my children go to bed I sit down and relax after a day that has gone smoothly. I have managed to give my children everything they needed on that particular day, there were no crisis’, there was no drama and no tears (theirs or mine).

Then there are the days that I wonder whether if being a parent is something that I was just not cut out for. The days when I have bounced from one bickering moment to the next, the shouty Mummy days and the days when I realise that parenting is the hardest job that I’ll ever have.

On the good days I give myself a mental high-five and a gold star for doing such a good job. On the bad says I politely remind myself of something a wise friend once told me…

Parenting is like doing IKEA flat pack without the instructions, you do it wrong, undo it, start again but it never looks like the ones in the advert. Getting it wrong is normal, being there is the important bit – Life As Alice

Such wise words that give me hope that tomorrow I will find the instructions in order to complete the my role as a parent successfully. Failing that I can countdown the minutes to bedtime and hope that I survive another day stumbling my way through parenthood.

Ha! She’s not wrong that Alice is she?

We all have good days and bad, we just need to remember the good!

That’s is such a true statement. In these days of (perfect parenting), these kind of reminders are really important…

    Word.

I have always said that I wish children came with a manual. And I hate to tell you this but it doesnt get any easier as they get older

I absolutely love that quote from Alice and it is so true. I so have those days when I feel like I am the worst mother in the world but it is a constant learning curve being a mum isn’t it? We are none of us perfect and I wouldn’t want to be perfect anyway but we all do the best we can and that is the important thing

You know my son is reading Alice in Wonderland atm and I never noticed quite how much Alice (our Alice) suits her name. I love her – she’s so crazy and talks a lot of sense.
