This yearly market begins in early November and runs until about the week before Christmas. It caters to families with a large array of special activities, attractions, and items for kids.
This traditional German Christmas market features all kinds of holiday greenery, wooden stalls for vendors, a huge amount of Christmas lights, and a lovely vintage looking Christmas carousel that the kids simply must ride.
The market itself can be found in Millennium Square and is a highly anticipated event each year that draws in hundreds of thousands of visitors. As you browse through the market you can expect to find a wide array of German traders that are selling authentic traditional Christmas items and decorations. Many of these items are handmade to help give them that authentic look and feel.
The vendors are located in wooden chalet stalls, and there are over 40 of them, so there is no shortage of shopping opportunities. Browse through toys, decorations, clothing, Christmas cards, jewellery, and much more. There’s something for every member of the family.
When it comes time for eating and snacking, kids will love the many sweets and Christmas-themed dishes available. Besides that, you’ll find typical German foods such as goulash, bratwurst, schnitzels, and much more. The gingerbread at the market is sure to put a smile on kids’ faces.
Additional Activities
Besides the many vendors, there are other draws to the market as well. In fact there has been a real push as of late to make the market even more family friendly than it already is.
New to the market this year are weekly children-themed shows on an open-air stage. These shows will take place on Sunday mornings each week. As well kids can take part in games, singalongs, enjoy the costumed characters walking around, get their face painted, and even have a balloon creation made for them. Kids can also dine with Santa on Sunday morning for breakfast; keep in mind this event requires buying tickets in advance.
There is no shortage of activities for kids to take part in and families are encouraged to visit the market more than once, as the events and shows are always changing.
