How to Save Money On Your Phone Bills

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for saving on your phone bills, particularly if you have a large family. If you want to cut down on the bills, you’re going to have to go with the flow and do some smart switching at the right time. You should also know where to look for freebies and discounts.

Fortunately, beating the telecom provider monopoly only takes ten minutes of your time. There are a few ways of getting around having a phone without it burning a hole in your bank account!

Embrace Free Communication Software

If you’ve got a smartphone already, there’s no reason as to why you shouldn’t be reaping the benefits of free communication software like Skype, Whatsapp and Viber. Skype is hardly a new thing: it’s been a favourite of anyone with an internet connection since 2003. The difference now is that you can download the Skype app to your phone, so you can call others who have it too, whether they are on a laptop or a phone.

Whatsapp recently made headlines after being bought by Facebook. Purchasing it for a ridiculously tiny fee allows you to text images, video and words to anyone else that also has the app (handily identified by showing you which contacts in your phone-book have it). Viber is sort of like Skype, but without video. The call quality varies, but it’s useful to have if you’re trying to save money.

Use Supermarket Deals

A lot of people tend to ignore supermarket offers as a long-term solution for a phone deal. You should look again: you may be surprised. The world of telecoms is a competitive place, and with supermarkets releasing their own branded tablet computers, it’s hardly surprising that they’d want to offer you a phone deal that’s worth your while.

Sainsbury’s, for instance, will give you the opportunity to link your Nectar card with your mobile account, meaning that you collect double your Nectar points every time you top-up your account, whether in-store or online.

Refuse 0870 Numbers

It’s about time everyone cottoned onto the fact that calling 0870, 0845, 0871 and 0844 numbers is one of the biggest scams in communication history. Calling any numbers that are prefixed with any of the above numbers usually results in a high cost call that’ll ruin your week when you realise how much it cost.

Fortunately, there are websites online that will provide you alternate numbers you can call, that will charge you at a normal rate. There are even smartphone apps that allow you to do the same thing.

These are merely three ways of cutting down costs – you should remember that there are more options out there that will save you money and a fleecing from the telecom giants. Happy hunting!
