Gifts for the quintessential British gentleman

December 16, 2015

Finding a gift for the quintessential British gentleman can be tough. With his refined taste and penchant for luxury, socks simply won’t cut it this year. If you’re struggling to buy for the lord of the manor, take a look at our selection of timeless gifts below:

Hand-built watches

Few gifts can wow as much as a Roger W. Smith watch. The painstaking process takes roughly six months, with the hand-built creations costing anything between £100,000 and £250,000. However, much like Smith’s former employer, horology expert George Daniels, the impeccable watches are among some of the finest in the world.

Chesterfield sofas

One of the more extravagant items in our list is a handcrafted Chesterfield sofa. Characterised by its quilted leather design and rolled arms, the piece has remained an essential piece of furniture for gentlemen for over 400 years. While imitations may exist, The Original Sofa Company still use traditional crafting methods to create and restore these distinctive sofas.

Gieves & Hawkes tailoring

The unofficial mark of a gentleman is fine tailoring. One of the most iconic tailors on Savile Row is Gieves & Hawkes, creators of bespoke suits based on client’s exact requirements. Prices start from £4,500 and take around 12 weeks to make for new clients. The period is often shorter for existing clients, as they will already have the client’s measurements.

Loake shoes

Of course, every gentleman’s suit should be complemented with a pair of timeless shoes. Loake Shoemakers has been hand-crafting British-made shoes since 1894 and operating under the royal warrant. With each pair taking around eight weeks to make and costing around £220, it is estimated that over 50 million pairs have been created in the brand’s history.
