In a city where all chocolate and sweets have been banned, Nelle Faulkner is a 12-year-old private detective looking for her next client. So when notorious candy gangster Eddie de Menthe walks into her office (her dad’s garden shed) and asks her to find a missing teddy bear, Nelle takes the case. But as soon as the teddy turns up, Eddie himself goes missing.

Can Nelle track them both down… before she comes to a sticky end?

As an avid reader, Roo likes to enjoy a chapter or two of a book before bed. I can always tell when she has one that has gripped her imagination as she’ll ask if she can read an extra chapter. The latest book to get her reading extra is Candy by Lavie Tidhar.

Candy starts by introducing the reader to a world where candy is banned – imagine a world like that! With candy hidden and smuggled in so that the children are still able to enjoy a piece of their favourite chocolate or sweets. Although the book is aimed at tweens who are chapter reading the book does still offer some illustrations. Carefully positioned throughout the book to add that extra interest and help the reader relate to the character and the situation they are currently facing.
