3 ways to control mother nature

November 18, 2015

Mother nature can be a cruel mistress. Whether you get your period on the worst possible day, you experience breakouts on your face or you suffer night sweats, you might sometimes feel as though your body is working against you. There are ways to control mother nature though, and here are three examples of how.

1. Using contraception

Contraception is one way that many women around the world take control of their bodies. The most popular option is the combined contraceptive pill, which contains versions of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. This medication works by preventing ovulation and its also makes it more difficult for eggs to implant in the womb lining. As well as acting as an effective form of birth control, the pill can help to make your periods more regular, lighter and less painful. It can also reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, which can include headaches, trouble sleeping, weight gain, nausea, anxiety and mood swings. For some women, this contraceptive is effective in reducing acne too.

2. Delaying your period

If you’re on the pill, you can delay your period by taking two packs back to back. Meanwhile, if you’re not on this form of birth control, there is another option. The prescription medicine Norethisterone can be used to put back your period. You take this in tablet form starting three days before your period is due to begin and you can use it to delay your bleed for up to 17 days. Whether you’ve got an important exam, a wedding or a holiday coming up, or you have another reason for wanting to put off your period, Norethisterone could be the answer. You can seek prescriptions for the treatment from your GP or online from specialist pharmacies such as www.clickpharmacy.co.uk.

3. Fighting the symptoms of the menopause

Treatments are also available to help tackle the symptoms of the menopause. When a woman’s ovaries stop producing eggs (which usually happens at around the age of 50, although it can occur when people are in the 30s or 40s), the balance of sex hormones in their bodies changes. For example, oestrogen levels fall. This can lead to night sweats, hot flushes, mood swings and dryness during sex. To combat these problems, some women opt to start hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which replaces oestrogen. Available in tablet, gel, cream, implant and patch form, HRT can reduce the troublesome symptoms associated with ‘the change’.

You might sometimes feel as though you’re fighting a losing battle with mother nature, but by taking advantage of treatments like these, you can take more control over your body.
